The Polo Bar at The Westbury recently won the coveted “London Bar of the Year” at the 2014 London Lifestyle Awards. Only London’s Bar of the Year. If you don’t mind.
To celebrate, they pulled out their beakers and bunsen burners and have come up with some specialty cocktails to prove they know their stuff. And believe me, they do know their stuff. Madam Scratch and I spent a lovely rainy London evening amidst the plush surrounds of royal blue velvet settees and Fendi details, imbibing several (hiccup) rather gorgeous cocktails. Nothing turns frumpy girls into glamour pusses quite like a cocktail. Or six.
I asked the charasmatic General Manager, Elias Yiallouris if he, or equally charming Fabio Dal Bosco, would share just one cocktail recipe with Scratch. They gave me two. They’re just like that.
- 45ml Tanqueray Gin
- 10ml Elderflower
- 10ml Lime Juice
- 10ml Lychee Juice
- 5ml Gomme
- Topped up with Pink Champagne
- Shake.
- Strain.
- Top with Pink Champagne
The Polo Bar is still running their fancy-pants Botanical Infusion Gin Menu which I covered in my round up of London’s Best Gin Bars, but now you’ll have to choose between them and something a bit higher up the naughty stakes. Like this.
- 15ml grand marnier
- 10ml lime juice
- 5ml gomme
- 1 bunch of red currants
- Champagne to top
- Shake.
- Strain.
- Layer with champagne
- Garnish with red currants
